How to Mint

100 PRINT is not a typical Art Blocks project. A Dutch auction will be initiated for mint pass sales to the event, which will entitle the collector to claim an NFT alongside a corresponding physical print from the series of 100. Claim order will be determined by the mint pass number (ex: mint pass 01 picks first, 100 picks last). The lower the token ID number, the earlier in line the collector gets to claim their selection choice IRL at the Bright Moments Soho Gallery - where the series will be displayed as 100 physical framed prints. The transfer of the NFT will happen upon physical print selection choice - with the transfer being memorialized via artist & collector signatures IRL.

The first 75 mints will be available in the Dutch auction on April 20th 2022 at 12:00pm ET. Pricing will start at 50 ETH, and decline by fixed price intervals over one hour, with an ending price of 1 ETH. The last 25 mints will be reserved for purchase at a 50% discount [to the last Dutch auction sale price] for both Bright Moments DAO members and Ben Kovach’s collectors and community.

Physical Print Details

Each piece will be a 24”x36” giclee print on German Etching high quality paper, encased in museum grade acrylic, custom white gallery frame by Tribeca Printworks. Every print will include a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by both the artist and the collector, mapped to the corresponding NFT

About the Artwork

100 PRINT is a nonfigurative, abstract generative drawing system based on the principles of visual perspective. Each edition is made up of carefully constructed lines and shapes that fit into a multidimensional world created on the fly, inviting the viewer to let their eyes wander and find pockets of what appear to be deliberately constructed objects in 3D space. 100 PRINT is an experimental project that draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources, including cubist and abstract expressionist artworks, printer test sheets, and MC Escher sketches. It represents a raw display of powerful drawing principles that have governed the construction of many artworks before it.

 About the Exhibition

When I started processing dozens of print orders, it became clear to me just how much art is contained in a generative collection even of a relatively small size. Scrolling through 100 outputs on a computer screen is nothing like browsing 100 large, printed works in real life. Displaying 100 PRINT as a series of framed pieces in a gallery invites viewers to become fully enshrouded in the collection and truly appreciate the scale of the modern generative art collection.

The pre-mint & claim method of distribution was devised in response to a pattern I have seen since entering the NFT space. Once a collection has minted out, many pieces are then “flipped” for a quick profit; those with more desirable traits or heightened rarity commanding higher prices. However, randomly minted artwork does not care if you bought into the project at its ceiling or floor price, meaning there can be no guarantee that the most expensive purchases result in the most desirable outputs. 100 PRINT gives meaning to the Dutch auction mechanic by placing more power in the lowered numbered tokens. Buyers who pay more for a ticket have a higher chance of receiving a piece they want; be that an aesthetic favorite, a rare one as defined by its traits, or an emergent grail.
